🇬🇧 English Summary
During a water transmission line renewal project in the Gümbet neighborhood of Bodrum, teams from the Muğla Su ve Kanalizasyon İdaresi (MUSKİ) discovered an ancient sarcophagus approximately three meters below ground level.
Work was immediately halted, and officials from the Muğla Kültür Varlıklarını Koruma Bölge Kurulu Müdürlüğü were dispatched to the site for examination.
Preliminary observations revealed a bull figure carved on the head section of the sarcophagus. In ancient Anatolian and Mediterranean cultures, the bull symbol commonly represented power, protection, and sacred authority.
Further archaeological investigations are expected to determine the exact period and historical context of the find. The discovery once again highlights Bodrum’s rich archaeological heritage, where even routine infrastructure work can uncover traces of antiquity beneath the modern city.
